HLR Synchronization

The loss of an HLR can be catastrophic event for a cellular network. Subscribers homed to that HLR are, in effect, out of service. The centralized, stand-alone Home location register in GSM can be a potential bottleneck. Besides, in case of the location database failure, incoming calls can be lost. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that the HLR be highly available. Hence, it is highly recommended to replicate the HLR in order to increase its capacity and reliability. On the flip side, replication of HLR results in data inconsistency.
